Proton Wallet uses zero-access encryption to secure sensitive data before it reaches our servers. Your wallet keys, wallet and account names, transaction metadata, and wallet seed phrases are all encrypted on your device, ensuring Proton servers cannot decrypt this information.

Several critical distinctions make Proton Wallet different from the standard Bitcoin wallet:

• Self- custodial: Proton Wallet is a self-custody wallet, meaning you have control of your private key and seed phrase. No one can access your Bitcoin without your permission, not even Proton.
• Bitcoin via Email: Proton Wallet’s unique Bitcoin via Email feature leverages our encrypted email system, enabling you to easily send Bitcoin to email addresses with enhanced privacy. The Proton Wallet app generates Bitcoin addresses and signs them with PGP keys, ensuring that each transaction remains secure.
• Our business is privacy: Proton isn't a crypto company — we're a privacy company that wants to empower everyone to use Bitcoin securely and privately.

Proton Wallet's exclusive on-ramp partners are currently Banxa and Ramp. You can buy Bitcoin on any of these platforms and once your transaction is complete, your Bitcoin will automatically appear in your Proton Wallet account.
